My wife and I have taken a guided walking trip and 2 guided bike trips with Van Gogh Tours. In each case, every aspect of the trip was handled professionally. The pre-departure information was comprehensive and accurate. The trips went flawlessly in each case. The quality of the hotels and the meals was excellent. The routes each day were well planned – scenic and safe. There were mid morning and mid afternoon rest stops as well as a stop for lunch each day. Although there were guided to lead us, we were also given detailed directions, so that we could follow our progress, if we chose to do that. The guides were very friendly and had a keen desire to learn our interests. I can recommend Van Gogh Tours without any reservations.
The trip was fantastic. So picturesque! I learned so much from our wonderful guides Jan and Emma who answered our every query. Wonderful accommodations, food, and company. The bikes were in perfect condition and the riding the most stress-free I’ve ever done. The Dutch know how to make cycling a valued and safe mode of transportation.
Lovely experience! From the views of the countryside to the food and excellent leadership of guides, this was a trip to remember! This is a great tour! It is very competitively priced with the “bigger companies” and great value. Because the groups are small, we get to stay in small very comfortable hotels. The size of the group also lends itself to more flexibility. The food is delicious, from the breakfasts at the hotels to the group meals at local restaurants. It’s a good example of Provençal food. I also liked that I was able to choose places for some of the meals on my own. The market in St. Remy was fun to go to…so many choices. What an experience. Emma did a great job with the hikes; the countryside is beautiful. I enjoyed the sites along the way. I was able to see things that I wouldn’t have done if I planned the trip on my own. I really liked the bouries and the Carrieres Lumieres. I would highly recommend.
I have been on thirteen Van Gogh Tours in five different European countries and have loved each and every one of the. Van Gogh is a mom-pop company, which keeps costs down, where the owner/operator is on tour with you every inch of the way. They take pride in personal service and strive to make each and every trip a wonderful experience for all who are involved. The bikes are high quality and if there is a breakdown or a flat they are right there with you so that they can either fix the problem or change out the bike. The Van Gogh owners take time and care in the selection of hotels and restaurants and select the highest quality of each and attempt to meet the needs of everyone’s diverse likes/dislikes and nutritional needs. The routes take you through the most lovely countryside, keeping you either on bike paths or lightly traveled roads. There are tours for every level of biking from the flat bike paths of Holland to the more rolling hillsides of France. In the past few years, the company changed hands and is now run by the original owner’s granddaughter. Our most recent tour was lead by Emma, who continues to strive to meet the Van Gogh Standard that meets/exceeds each and every travelers touring needs. We have made many lifelong biking friends through these tours who we still see and bike with in and around our own cities. Thanks Van Gogh for being such a great company where everyone feels like part of the family.
Great Trip from hello to good bye. My wife and I just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with a Van Gogh guided trip to Normandy and Brittany. From the minute we were greated by the Van Gogh family at the train until they drove us to our departure train they were focused on providing us with the best service possible. The trip was planned perfectly – we were never bored nor did we ever say we had too much. They clearly know what works for their clients. All the hotels were nice – the meals all very good and the mix of cycling and site seeing was perfect. While they can not take credit for the weather it did not hurt that we have 6 days of sunshine! If you are looking for great service at a great value – go Van Gogh!!!!!
From the moment we met with the group, we were looked after and could just enjoy every moment; not worrying about logistics. The tulips, windmills, culture; all of it was spectacular. There were spots like the North Sea where I wish we could have lingered longer, maybe next time. Emma is a natural as a cycle tour person.
I was very pleased with the excellent group dynamics the scenery was fantastic and the guides went above and beyond to make sure the clients enjoy the trip and found everything they were looking for. This trip was the first vacation trip I have taken where everything was arranged and taken care of. It was really relaxing even though they were damp chilly moments . The group consisted of folks who are used to dealing with whatever comes up and being at least somewhat independent. Refreshing!
We traveled with our 12 year old grandson. He was made to feel very much a part of the group. I liked the Keukenhof gardens the best and I also enjoyed learning so much about the Netherlands. I don’t think I would have felt this way if our guides, Emma and Denise hadn’t done such an outstanding job. They are friendly, efficient, well prepared and knowledgeable.
Bike and Barge Tours
Beautiful accommodations, very helpful staff, and absolutely wonderful food thanks to the young chef aboard. My husband rode daily with Marjan, their guide, on the safe bike roads of The Netherlands. My days were spent idling on the covered deck viewing riparian scenery. We all joined in on the city tours, again lead by Marjan, each evening after supper. Would highly recommend this tour to riders with or without riding partners. First vacation I actually came home rested!
My husband and I took a bike and barge trip in the Netherlands. Our guide was engaging and fun, the cook on the barge fantastic, and the accommodations comfortable. Everything worked out very well, from the initial information, booking to the follow up. I would highly recommend Van Gogh Tours.
Completely exceeded our expectations. The barge & staff were comfortable and welcoming. It was great to bike during the day and enjoy the diverse people in the evening over dinner and drinks. From the moment we were welcomed by our tour lead and the barge captain/staff on board, the holiday was wonderful. Every day was a mini adventure from navigating the bike ways, enjoying the country side, flower market and park, and the dutch villages–it was remarkable. Breakfast and dinners were family ample and delicious and we enjoyed the on board beverage service.
This was an excellent experience, which my wife and I enjoyed immensely. The food was always interesting and well prepared. It is rare to have 3 meals a day included on any kind of tour, which was the case on this tour. Our crew and tour leader were both interesting and friendly and made sure that we had an enjoyable experience. Our route went through many interesting locations and provided a good history of the countryside, villages, and cities that we visited.
We thought the trip was very good value for the cost and we enjoyed the warm welcome and support we received. I really appreciated the care that was taken to ensure I could follow a gluten free diet with no difficulty. We loved the quality of the bikes and now we want new bikes! I was thrilled to see the Netherlands, especially in spring and to learn about the flower industry; I hope that something like the Aaslmeer auction can continue as part of the tour when the facility moves. I appreciated all the opportunities we had to learn more about traditional land reclamation in the Netherlands. Our guides were informative and we appreciated being offered several options for stops and tours. Our “detour” rides through the port outside Amsterdam and the “City of the Sun” were very, very interesting and I feel happy to have learned more about both traditional and modern Netherlands and the Dutch people.
The staff on board and guides were excellent. We had so much fun. I have been with your company two years ago from Amsterdam to Bruges and found the sights more interesting. We loved the food, the crew and guides and the guests we got to know on the trip!
Also this time we had a triple room. The third person in our cabin and myself both hit our heads on the bunk bed quite hard the first night so we dragged the mattress on the floor and she slept there for the week. The staff came and rehooked the bunk bed to the wall. We would not ever recommend a triple room of that size. However everything else was wonderful. I would certainly take another trip with your company and recommend it to friends and family!
Paul was a great leader and knew so much about the routes and history of Holland. He had a great smile and made the best of every situation. The bikes were very comfortable to ride once I got a new seat. Paul worked very hard to accommodate everyone’s preferences. Our chef was very innovative and we all enjoyed his meals. All the staff went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. Holland is a great place to bike. I was worried I might not be able to do the distances but the relaxed pace was great. It was a great way to see Holland without the worry of finding accommodations.
This self-guided tour fit the bill for us. We like to explore on our own and were not looking for anything too strenuous. The variety of what we saw from windmills to polders to dikes and beaches made it all the better. The hotel owners and staff could not have been more pleasant or accommodating. The whole experience has left us with very good memories.
We had a wonderful family trip cycling, exploring and eating our way through Provence. I would say it exceeded our expectations. What we really enjoyed was cycling through the peaceful countryside. The cherries and strawberries were prime. The bikes fit great. Every town and village was like a postcard. We lucked out with the weather, it wasn’t too hot and only rained one afternoon. We went earlier in the season so we didn’t run into many other riders or tourists. The lodging was always clean and comfortable. The hosts were friendly and helpful even though our French was sketchy at best. We never felt unsafe on the route. It was fun shopping for food for our daily lunch picnic. All the breakfasts (but one) and dinners were abundant and delicious.
We loved this tour & Netherlands is still our favourite place to cycle. Vangogh is very helpful, so is Eurosail but Vangogh has best range of cycle tours to choose from. We will be back with Vangogh!
From start to finish we were very pleased with our self guided tour. Excellent bikes and the directions were great. We had timely markers to confirm we were always on the right path. I felt this trip was going to be “make or break” on the condition of the bikes and we were very pleased with them. Beautiful Italy. Was surprised that the views in Tuscany changed with each day we rode. Hills were a little longer and more challenging than we anticipated but we did it! Again, the bikes were great and in very good shape which helped our hill climbs! Would recommend your company and be happy to book with you again for sure!
Our leader was excellent. She imparted information about Italy while taking us on amazing walks through the most beautiful country. The sites were amazing, and I think Matera was my favorite. I enjoyed the story behind the experience, and our hotel was awesome. Marinella gave us a rich experience of knowledge and beauty of nature, while we walked. She even arranged a herd of cows lead only by a horse and 3 dogs as one of our special experiences.
The other destinations were equally amazing and our accommodations were very nice. The “farmhouse” was the best and our food while in Italy cannot be described, only appreciated. I thought I would have gained weight on this trip, but I actually dropped a few pounds, not for the lack of trying.
